| Introduction: |
| National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanent youth programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and the expenditure is shared by the Central and State Government in the ratio 7:5. Though NSS was started in the year 1969, the same was introduced in Polytechnic Colleges during the year 1983 – 1984. |
| In our college, three NSS units are functioning. Units I, II and III were started in our campus during 1988, 1999 and 2004 respectively. Each unit has 100 volunteers. Totally 300 students are serving as volunteers. |
| Objectives: |
| The overall objective of National Service Scheme is “Development of the personality of students through community service”. |

It underlines that the welfare of an industrial is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole. |
| SYMBOL: |
| The symbol of the National Service Scheme, as appearing title of NSS is based on the ‘Rath’ Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple in Orissa. The giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signify the movement in life across time and space. |
| The design of the symbol, a simplified form of the Sun-Chariot wheel primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. It stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and upliftment. |

| An International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on 26-06-2020. Mr. R.Rajasekaran, Programme Officer, Unit-I, presented a special address with slide show in Zoom meeting. Pledge was taken by the students. |

| An International Yoga Day was celebrated in Zoom meeting on 21-06-2020. About 100 students and Staff members practiced Yoga. Mr. R.Rajasekaran, Programme Officer, Unit-I, demonstrated Warming exercise and Yoga recommended by Government of India. Staff members and Students practiced Yoga and their photos send to DOTE NSS PO’s South Zone What’s app group. |
